Online Counselling
Online or video counselling offers the same supportive and confidential experience as face-to-face therapy, with the added convenience of accessing sessions from the comfort and privacy of your own space, without the need to travel.
Online counselling provides an opportunity to explore personal difficulties in a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental environment. Many people experience times in life when emotions can feel overwhelming or difficult to manage, affecting day-to-day wellbeing and the ability to cope. Online therapy offers accessible support at a time and place that is convenient for you.
Online counselling can support a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, loneliness, trauma, abuse, discrimination, eating difficulties, and many other emotional or personal challenges. However, there are some situations where online counselling may not be the most appropriate form of support. If I feel that face-to-face therapy or an alternative service would better meet your needs, I will discuss this with you and support you in accessing suitable additional support where possible.
Please note that I am unable to provide online counselling for anyone under the age of 16. If this applies, I can offer guidance towards alternative services that specialise in supporting younger people.
Once an appointment has been agreed, you will receive a confirmation email along with a reminder prior to your session. I use a secure online platform called WriteUpp, which provides a confidential link directly to your video session. There is no need to download any applications or software, as sessions can be accessed easily through your web browser. The platform is fully encrypted and compliant with GDPR standards to ensure your privacy and confidentiality are protected.
At the time of your appointment, simply click the link provided to enter the secure waiting room, where I will meet you online.
My aim is to provide a warm, supportive, and professional therapeutic space where you feel heard, understood, and able to explore your thoughts and experiences openly. Through this process, counselling can help foster self-awareness, emotional growth, and positive change. My role is not to give advice, but to support and empower you in finding your own understanding and direction.
Confidentiality and Security
Confidentially is one of the most important part of any therapy and I uphold the same high level of confidentially as just as I would in face-to-face therapy. With online therapy we may agree a “safe word” this can be for many different reasons, mainly for protection of your confidentiality, which we can discuss in more detail.
Just like face-to-face counselling, emergency contact information is still required. In the event of an emergency arising whilst you are engaged in online work or if you were experiencing suicidal thoughts, I would discuss with you the appropriate support that you could access during this period. If you found yourself in a major crisis and were considering serious self-harm it would be vital to get immediate help. This could include contacting your GP, or your nearest accident and emergency service (A & E). You could also call the Samaritans on 116 123. I would follow the guidelines for taking action and sharing your personal details with the appropriate service to access the emergency support required. All personal information disclosed will be kept confidential and not used for any purposes other than a counselling record. All client material is treated in complete confidence and is held to GDPR guidelines and destroyed after the agreed time of working together. Electronic information and records are all stored on encrypted, and a password protected platform provide by “writeup” which has been developed for clinicians and therapist.
If you have any questions regarding the content of the agreement, or would like further information, please contact me on the contact form
