Counselling for Children and Young People

Counselling for children, teenagers and young people can provide valuable support throughout different stages of emotional, social, and personal development. It can help young people navigate challenges they may be experiencing, while also supporting their emotional wellbeing, confidence, relationships, and ability to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Sessions for children, teenagers and young people are usually short-term and tailored to the individual’s age, needs, and circumstances. The focus is on creating a safe, supportive, and trusting environment where they can express themselves openly and develop healthy ways of coping with difficulties.

As part of the therapeutic process, I invite parents or caregivers to attend an initial session. This offers an opportunity to discuss any presenting concerns, gain a better understanding of the young person’s background, and explore how best to support them moving forward. I typically recommend an initial block of six sessions, followed by a review to discuss progress and whether any further sessions may be beneficial and agreed upon.

Counselling may include a range of age-appropriate therapeutic activities designed to help young people build confidence, strengthen communication and social skills, manage emotions, and develop constructive ways of dealing with challenges and conflict. The aim is to support each young person in reaching their own individual potential and personal goals.
